Represented elsewhere at Bard in their individual practices (Ingot Objects and Studio Viv Lee), Jonathan and Viv have collaborated on a research project, the results of which we are delighted to debut at Bard. Following extensive searches and research into local wild clay, they have sought to capture the unique character and integrity of different clay sources, with as little interruption by hand and process as possible.
Viv beautifully describes the impetus behind the couple’s collaborative practice: “Working with wild clays, we are not controlling the outcomes, but seeking ways to allow natural expressions in the raw material to come through. As such, we are interested less in the process of material transformation and more in preservation.”
