Oisín Gallagher is an Irish artist based at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, whose practice manifests itself primarily in sculpture and performative happenings. Often working collaboratively, his sculptures support and facilitate the work of other artists curators and performers, and is influenced by his ongoing work as an art handler and fabricator for galleries and museums.
Over the past year, Oisín has been able to focus exclusively on furniture making and design. Under the name 'Settle', he creates unique furniture pieces that combine the contemporary with traditional vernacular styles.
What value does craft have in daily life?
Craft is to be shared and appreciated
Patinated with time, touched and lived with
Passed down as heirlooms and gifted
To be used, patched and repaired
What does Scottishness mean to you?
Scottishness is the warmth, friendship and shared sense of kinship extended towards those not born here but who have chosen to stay the weather and call it home.
