Shetland Woollen Company has a rich history dating back to 1923, when the original company L.J. Smith began trading in woven and knitted goods. The label of Shetland Woollen Company has been knitted since the 1950s, and is now one of the few remaining knitwear factories in Shetland. Today the company is employee-owned with a mission to preserve and evolve Shetland’s rich knitwear heritage. Garments are made to the highest quality, designed to last and be passed down generations. They are exported worldwide and renowned for their archetypal form and comfortable fit. Using a blend of modern technology in combination with handwork, craft knowledge and skill is still at the heart of the company’s process. Each jumper passes through 15 different people’s hands from raw wool to finished garment.
