Fertile fever...

Edinburgh is particularly fecund at the moment. We walk down the Water of Leith each morning through tunnels of sticky trees, clouds of drowsy aphids and weeds that are groaning with pollen. Even Dougal has hay fever. Parent swans, guarding their brood of teenage cygnets, hiss at us and we sneeze back at them. Schools have already broken up for summer in Scotland, and there’s a carnival atmosphere on the streets. Weeks of holiday stretch ahead, pregnant with possibility. Holidays are times for rest, but also growth; a pause on routine life to try new things and ask ourselves what matters. Seize the summer and all its vim!
