Old Knowledge

The word cræft in Old English referred to a knowledge and power harnessed from a deep understanding of humanity and nature, akin to magic. Cræft is the verbal ancestor of craft. Today we talk about awe and magic and it doesn’t sound as woo as it might have done five years ago. We are reassessing the value of old knowledge in new ways, and beginning to appreciate the ineffable qualities of craft beyond its physical forms. Craft as an attitude and an approach to life is more relevant than ever. We don’t need a crystal ball to believe that it belongs in our future, not just our past.
