Las
Iseabal Hendry£2,600.00
Description
Las is a Scottish Gaelic word meaning to kindle, light or ignite, and refers to the gentle licking flame form of Iseabal’s sculpture and its potential use as a basket for kindling. Las comprises steam-bent Scottish oak, locally sourced near to Iseabal’s Wester Ross studio. She worked on the wood with the boatbuilders near to her home where she had previously apprenticed, and has applied her signature Italian vegetable-tanned leather and lace to the outside surface of the oak. It is a marriage of graphic geometry and organic matter, form and feeling, precise and poetic, unique and also familiar. The resulting work is a rigid-yet-soft curl of quiet power and compelling beauty.
