Joel Franklyn is the man, mind and hands behind Skye Stone Studio, based in lower Breakish on the Isle of Skye. A trained stone mason, Joel has recently been exploring the myriad opportunities for making terrazzo using smooth and crushed aggregates from the Skye Marble quarry at nearby Torrin, and the limestone quartz from the quarry at Kyleakin. Joel’s terrazzo is making waves in the Scottish architecture community, finding a home as a characterful flooring and surface material in kitchens and bathrooms. For Bard, Joel has made a series of platters, perfect for cheese and cured meats.
