Description
“The materials here are surprisingly simple. Gypsum plaster is retarded with collagen-based glue, which slows the set and allows us time to manipulate the colours and form a thick dough to press into the mould. This particular pigment is called Vine Black and is made from burnt grape vines. This design is based on a classic three-centred arch. The repetition in the design meant that Ffi was able to make the 12-part plaster mould without needing to make a model first. We looked at the chair once we’d finished it and thought that it wouldn’t look out of place in a pharaoh’s tomb. However, in our house it would probably be claimed by Claude, our cat, and it was easy to imagine him curled up on it.” Steven and Ffion Blench
