Tile Trivets
Frances Priest£185.00
Description
“These Tile Trivets bring together playfulness and practicality. We have called them Tile Trivets, but they can be free or fixed, decorative or useful. They can embellish a wall or hold a hot pan or act as a plinth for a cocktail. Encaustic tile-making dates back to medieval times. Terracotta and ochre tiles can still be found in the floors of early churches. The Victorians turned them into a high art form, using them to decorate stately homes and municipal buildings. A humble porch would be elevated with an encaustic tile floor.
I love craft for its ability to create moments of pause. The idea of craft at hand-scale feels wonderful. It allows you to physically touch a building and connect with it.” Frances Priest
Encaustic ceramic.
17cm in diameter, 1cm thick.
Tile Trivets were first shown at Bard as part of the group exhibition The Grit and The Glamour in November 2023.
